What do you do in your store to assure food safety? The food assembly area follows the USDA Food Code for food safety. All customers are trained in basic food safety. Gloves are available to all customers. And all cooking instructions comply with USDA food safety guidelines. [back]
What types of food are we going to assemble? Menus change monthly but typical offerings include poultry, pasta, beef, pork, and seafood/fish. You can prepare your dinners at home by baking, sautéing, grilling, or slow-cooking. Healthier selections may be available. Please see this month's menu. [back]
Is this gourmet food? We select our menus based on the season to take advantage of the freshest ingredients. You will also find selections perfect for entertaining or holiday meals. Gourmet? You decide. [back]
Will my children like it? Our dinners are aimed at satisfying a wide variety of tastes. The beauty of custom creating your own meals is that you can tailor each meal to your preferences. If your kids don’t like onions, leave them out. If your family prefers more sauce, take a little extra. You assemble it the way your family likes it. [back]
How much food do I get? We use the following guidelines when designing our recipes. [back]
| Food Groups |
4-6 Servings |
| Protein |
1 ½ pounds |
| Starch |
3 cups |
| Vegetables |
12-16 ounces |
Note: Not all recipes include protein, vegetables, and/or starches
How many people does each dinner serve? We find that portion quantities are a very personal choice. Our recipes meet the USDA Food Pyramid guidelines for serving six people. Based on experience, we've found that ordering a meal that serves 4 will feed four adults with reasonable appetites or six if feeding a combination of adults and children. We recommend that you look at how much protein your family normally consumes and judge based on this. [back]
What if my household size is smaller than 4–6? You can divide most selections in half to provide 2–3 servings each. This doubles the amount of meals you can take home, too. Some of our customers come with a friend and split the meals–a great option if you have a small family, elderly parents, or for college kids in need of a home-cooked meal. [back]
Can Publix Apron's Make-Ahead Meals help me with my entertaining? Yes. Order several of the same meal, or complementary meals, to serve your guests. You’ll enjoy a low-stress entertaining experience and your guests will love the food. Call the store for suggestions. [back]
I have some dietary restrictions and or allergies. Can you help me? Absolutely. Please ask us to see a complete list of ingredients in advance to help you select your entrees. If someone you will be serving food to is allergic to an ingredient, please choose another dish in the menu since we cannot be held responsible for allergic reactions. Allergen warning: Please be aware that our products may have come in contact with these ingredients: Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Soybeans, Wheat, Eggs, Milk, Fish and Shellfish. You may also select your personal food preferences if you create an account when placing your order. [back]
What should I wear? Publix Apron's Make-Ahead Meals is a fun and casual kitchen environment. Informal, comfortable dress is highly encouraged and recommended–comfortable and casual within reason, of course. Leave the high heels at home. If you have long hair, bring something to pull it back with. [back]
What should I bring? The only thing you will need to bring is a standard-sized cooler to carry all your delicious meals home. Coolers will also be available for purchase. [back]
What do I get? When you leave you will have 6-12 labeled entrees that feed 4-6 people and a freezer checklist to help you keep track of your meals. [back]
How long it is going to take me to assemble my meals in-store? Approximately one to two hours, depending on how many meals you are assembling. [back]

Can I bring a friend to help me assemble my meals? Yes, but please let us know in advance, and please limit yourself to one guest per customer. [back]
Can I bring my children? For our regular sessions, children must be 12 years or older to attend, and we ask that you bring only one child with you. For safety reasons, children 11 years or younger are not permitted in the Publix Apron’s Make-Ahead Meals kitchen. [back]

What do I actually take home and how is it packaged? You will take home fully assembled meals in either plastic bags or aluminum pans. Each package is labeled with the cooking instructions. Certain components of your recipe (such as sauces, pasta, etc.) may be individually packaged in small plastic bags or cups. [back]
What happens when I get back home? After a session, you will take home meals ready to be frozen. Then all you have to do is store them in your freezer. Thaw in your refrigerator overnight and finish cooking or reheating when you are ready. We provide easy, thoroughly tested instructions on each package. [back]
Will it fit in my freezer? The average order should fit in a standard freezer with room left over for your basic necessities. It’s a tight fit, but it’s well worth all the time you save and still enjoy sitting down to dinner with your family. [back]
What's the easiest way to manage my Publix Apron's Make-Ahead Meals? We suggest you move the meal from the freezer to the refrigerator the evening before you plan to cook it. This should allow the meal to be thawed and ready to cook the night you need it. [back]
Can I cook any of the meals I just made? Certainly. If you just can't wait, you can enjoy one of the meals as soon as you get home. Just transfer it to your refrigerator instead of your freezer, pack the other meals into the freezer, and follow the cooking instructions when you're ready to prepare dinner. [back]
Why do you have temperatures on some of your cooking instructions? Minimum temperatures on some cooking instructions are based on food safety regulations. They should be used in conjunction with a meat thermometer to ensure your food is cooked to a safe temperature. [back]
